Discovery Competition

The Discovery Concert Competition is open to COS members on any instrument they study, in Junior and Senior divisions. The winner performs as soloist with the Young Symphonic Ensemble at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center.

Two things to do first.

Read the Rules

The rules and required repertoire differ between the Junior and Senior divisions. Read the set that applies to your child before filling anything in. The Junior Division is for applicants who have not reached their 15th birthday by April 2026.

A brief biography and a one-page essay are required. The essay topic is either “My plans after the competition” or “Necessary steps to prepare for an audition or competition”. Attach both to the application below.

Have your division, date of birth, the year you entered COS, your age during the first round, the instrument you are competing on, the concerto and movement titles, and your accompanist ready. You will attach the biography and essay at the end.
