Inspiring Empathy and Persistence Through Music: Dr. Ma Featured on “A Change is a Chance” Podcast

We're thrilled to share that our own Dr. Yeou-Cheng Ma was recently featured on the "A Change is a Chance" podcast, where she discussed the transformative power of music in children's lives and the important work we do at the Children's Orchestra Society.

In Episode 46: "Inspiring Empathy and Persistence through the Language of Music," Dr. Ma shares her unique perspective as both an accomplished musician and a developmental pediatrician. Her insights illuminate how music education goes far beyond learning notes and rhythms—it's about teaching children empathy, building persistence, and helping every child discover their own voice through the universal language of music.

Dr. Ma's approach to music education has always been deeply personal and inclusive. As someone who has worked with children with developmental disorders for decades, she understands that every child learns differently. Her teaching philosophy—developed through years of medical practice and musical instruction—focuses on meeting each student where they are and celebrating their individual journey.

The Children's Orchestra Society has been privileged to witness countless children blossom under Dr. Ma's leadership, from students who seemed "impossible to teach" to those who have gone on to pursue careers in music and medicine. Her commitment to making music accessible to all children continues to inspire our entire community.

We invite you to listen to the full episode and discover how music can change lives—one note, one student, one moment at a time.
